What's in a name?

I do not understand why English first names are so few, and that last names are so many, so anything goes.

Just around me I know 2 Pat/Patty, 3 Susan/Sue/Susie, 4 Marys, 5 Johns/Johny, 6 Jennifers, 7 Nancys, 8 Bobby/Bob/Rob/Robbie/Rorbert, and 9 Janes.

There are many unique last names, practically half of the last names are very unique. To name a few weird last names, Bald and Evil come to mind. Then there are Finger, Kitchen, Carr, Bird, Tooth, Spine...like I said, anything goes.

Chinese last names are around 100 or so. If it is not on the 100 last name list, you can be sure that it is a rare last name. Just as there are many Johns and Marys, there are as many Chen's and Lee's.

A lot of celebraties like to distiguish themselves by giving their babies rare first names. Apple 'falls' to mind. Pilot is not so bad. Sirus is in the recently headline.

Seriously, naming a pet with cute names is one thing, but your kids?
